DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF NYSC TICKETING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

The main thrust of this study is to work on the Design and implementation of Nysc Ticketing System. This research project addresses the problems faced by NYSC corps members during their registration. The project studies some issues on implementation and also recommendations on how Online NYSC Ticketing System web portal can take place effectively. This project also recommends a Decision Support System to deal with the users’s requirement. This project includes the development of a prototype Online NYSC Ticketing System web portal to support the research objective. This web portal will assist in future development that would support a fully integrated system that links staff  members of NYSC to NYSC corps member. PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery, MYSQL database and WampServer are the programming tools used in development of this research project.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Background to the study

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was established in 1973 by the government of General  Yakubu  Gowon.  The  historical  background  of  the  policy  is  traceable  to  the events that took place in Nigeria towards the last half of 1960s. The years 1967-1970 were characterised  by the Nigerian civil war. At  the  end of the war,  the General Gowon administration  came  up  with  new  policies  that  would  promote  post-conflict  peace, reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction. Consequently, the vital need for national unity led to the birth of the NYSC idea.

This thesis proposed to Design and implement  Nysc Ticketing System. The core function of ticketing system is to manage all incoming requests from NYSC corps members. Because NYSC officials tend to have a high volume of requests, they need a system to manage the lifecycle of every corps membe’s request, from submission to resolution..

This NYSC ticketing system will be design to keep staff up to date on the status of tickets from corps members. This system  will be managed by backend I.T experts . Each ticket will contain a technical problem or series of problems, and it is the IT team’s responsibility to resolve these issues in a timely manner. Using this ticketing system will eases the IT department’s stress by keeping all information organized in a central hub.

Statement Of The Problem

The sudden increase in the number of NYSC enrollment each has transcended the manipulation of the existing system used by the NYSC administrators and this prompted a lot of problems which encompass the inaccurate and poor responses in handling of NYSC corps member’s issues which required urgent attention by the staffs.  This is a very ugly development..  All these and more are encountered due to the debilitation of the prevailing system used. The NYSC officials complained seriously on the unnecessary stress encountered responding to corps members queries manually.

Aims/Objectives

The basic aim of the study is on the  Design and implementation of Nysc Ticketing System .

These are the  following specific objectives:

  • To produce a reliable system that would coordinate most of the NYSC activities.
  • To produce a flexible and comprehensive system that would meet up with the future development in the NYSC.
  • To design and develop a computerized system that would handle the execution of NYSC activities most especially during NYSC registration from prospective corps members so as to liquidate all the problems identified with the existing system.
  • To design a system that can help the NYSC management respond to corps members issues via support ticket

Scope Of The Study

This study covered the substantive solution to the problems generated by the existing system used in the school administration and management.  However, the case study is post-primary school management board (PPSMB) Enugu.

Justification Of The Study

The use of different communication technologies has far gone beyond phone calls and messaging, the internet is now the most accepted and trendy medium of communication in the society. It is not just acquiring the knowledge of ICT that is important, organizations need to understand how to use ICT pedagogically. ICT used appropriately can stimulate the development of higher cognitive skills, deepen learning and contribute to the acquisition of skills needed for learning all life- long and for working in today’s job market (Tchombe et al., 2008).

This project will be beneficial to the management of the NYSC orientation camps for effective monitoring and management of the system .it will also be a great relieve to the prospective corps members as it serve as a middle man, linking the corps member and the staff. To the management, it helps reduce redundancy encountered in handling large files, provide an enabling environment to disseminating news to all corps members and  track other management issues whenever they arise.

The implementation of this computerized system would definitely stimulate the NYSC standard.  This would as well help the management to ease the burden on the staff which would be on the benefit of students and staffs.  It is also a basic study for research and for the entire populace and future researchers.

Scope Of The Study

This thesis will be limited to Design and Implementation of NYSC Ticketing System. The study will made use of  PHP (Hypertext Pre-Processor), HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), JavaScript and CSS (Cascading Style Sheet).
